Deep Dive 2 - The first storytellers: lessons from First Nations-led prevention
Deep Dive
Session Description
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are the world’s oldest storytellers and are experts in designing and sharing messages for truth-telling and change.
Join this session to hear from First Nations activists and leaders as they explore what messaging looks like for Aboriginal-led prevention.
This session will explore how self-determination and First Nations justice are supported by sharing stories of strength, resilience and solutions in order to address family and gender-based violence, structural racism and the ongoing impacts of colonisation. We will also hear about how and why it is important that the messages we use in all primary prevention reinforce and support this.
We will also consider community-led strategies, resources and frameworks that have been developed to date. What can we learn from these and from current experience in Aboriginal-led prevention and campaigns for self-determination and justice? How can we support this by building messages into broader primary prevention work?
