About Conscious Combat Club
The Conscious Combat Club (CCC) is a social enterprise established to disrupt gender-based violence through facilitating trauma-informed martial arts programs for women and gender-diverse people.
Gender-based violence describes the phenomenon of violence perpetrated overwhelmingly by men, towards women. This violence is replicated throughout many systems by design, underpinned by patriarchal lineages and structures that enable the perpetration of gender-based violence.
Trauma-informed means we apply a person-centred approach to all our clients, offering classes tailored to their individual needs to promote autonomy and choice. Uniquely, trauma-informed martial arts disrupt gender-based violence by creating the space for respect-based, consensual power exchanges to occur between people of all genders.
Our founder developed this Australian-first program in consultation with clinical psychologists, interweaving decades of experience in martial arts and exercise science.
We have facilitated trauma-informed kickboxing classes for over four years, both online and in person, primarily working with women who are survivors of gender-based violence. Our self-paced programs support participants to practice body connection, emotion regulation and boundary setting, whilst exploring traditional kickboxing movements. We provide a safe space for release, community connection and mindfulness in action.
The CCC has welcomed all women, including trans women and non-binary people who identify with womanhood, and held open community classes welcoming people of all genders to join. We offer 8 week, trauma-informed kickboxing courses for women and gender-diverse people, located on Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung country in South Melbourne, Thornbury and Brunswick. Join us!
